Frazee Book Named Ritter Award Finalist

I’m proud to announce that my book Harry Frazee, Ban Johnson, and the Feud That Nearly Destroyed the American League was a finalist for the Larry Ritter Award, given by SABR’s Deadball Era Committee to the author of the best new book related to the Deadball Era published in the previous year.
Alas, it didn’t win, but my congratulations go out to Ron Selter, whose fine book, Ballparks of the Deadball Era, won the award. Excerpts from Ron’s book were featured here at Seamheads.com last October and can be found here.
Other finalists include:
1) Rick Huhn’s Eddie Collins: A Baseball Biography (McFarland), a comprehensive biography of the Hall of Fame second baseman and longtime executive.
2) Tom Swift’s Chief Bender’s Burden: The Silent Struggle of a Baseball Star (University of Nebraska), a creatively woven biography of the Hall of Fame pitcher.
Congratulations to all!

Congratulations Mike! I haven’t gotten around to ordering your book yet but I will very soon.
I have had the opportunity to read “Harry Frazee, Ban Johnson and the Feud”.I enjoyed it and learned from it. I came away with a completely different impression of Frazee after finishing the book. The book covers more than just the Johnson/Frazee issues, and gives us much into what was happening in the American League to the time.
Congrats Mike! Nice to see you get recognized for all your hard work.
Ditto that!! Three winners for sure.
“Harry Frazee, Ban Johnson and the Feud…” was definitely informative and enjoyable, and was certainly would have been a worthy Ritter Award winner.
Ron Selter’s “Ballparks of the Deadball Era” is also an excellent book, and certainly worthy of the award.
