The Passing of Ron Gabriel

June 21, 2009 by Ted Leavengood · 1 Comment

Recently I posted an interview with Ron Gabriel, the president and founder of the international Brooklyn Dodgers Fan Club.  Ron died earlier this month just weeks after we talked.  A memorial service will be held in Olney, Maryland this coming week.

Ron was an amazing baseball resource with unparalleled knowledge of the history of the game.  He served as a Vice President of SABR and I looked forward to talking to him at this year’s convention.  The history of his beloved Dodgers will not fade, but that legacy has lost its most ardent advocate.  Baseball has lost a dignified and intelligent fan.  He will be missed.

Ted, do you know how I can get in touch with his family? Does his phone number maybe leave a forwarding number? I’m his cousin, and we were working together on our genealogy. Thanks. You can email me at lisa @t starways d.t net.
