Running Down a Dream: Cleveland Run

I walk into the office of the Lake Erie Crushers who are expecting me and the first thing I hear is “we have no spots and we’re not signing anyone.”
Imagine my bewilderment. Why did I come all the way from Hawaii then?! This was the first workout I had lined up. This was the one that made me think I ought to make this trip.
So I mustered up all my emotions, and hid them somewhere where they wouldn’t come out for two hours. My response: “Let me show you what I can do. You have the all-star break coming up, you may lose some guys to affiliates, you might release some guys, I want you to see what I’ve got.”
I looked at the teams numbers . . . they have plenty of room for improvement. So why the iron fist? At least watch a little, think about it, before you slam the door.
At least they we’re willing to give me the time of day. We did do a workout, but those opening words lingered in my mind, and so did the question . . . Why?
Nevertheless, one of the assistants timed me running the bases, hit me some fungoes at 1B, some fly balls in right, and I did just fine. I was pretty up front with him when I said, “If you’re gonna sign me, it’s cuz I can hit.”
I hit some front toss in the cage right after. Just me and the assistant were there. That’s all we did. And to be perfectly honest, I felt I did really well.
I’m looking for that break. They say you gotta make your breaks, I’m doing what I know how.
So I’m gonna ‘rock and roll’ right out of Cleveland (yes, home of the R&R Hall, pun intended), more updates soon.
