- Candelaria was the first Pirates pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Pittsburgh since 1907 (Nick Maddox vs. Superbas on September 20, 1907 at Exposition Park III).
- It was thrown on "Candy Night," during which 10,000 candy bars were given to fans.
- When Baltimore's John Means no-hit the Mariners on May 5, 2021 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, he broke a 52-year drought in which no Orioles individual hurler threw a no-hitter (Jim Palmer vs. Athletics on August 13, 1969 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore), leaving the Pirates with the longest drought at 45 years.

- Francisco Cordova had thrown a career-high 121 pitches when he was removed from the game.
- Pinch-hitter Mark Smith won the game with a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th, only the second time a no-hitter was capped off by a walk-off home run (Virgil Trucks vs. Senators on May 15, 1952 at Tiger Stadium in Detroit).
- Cordova and Ricardo Rincon are both natives of Mexico and joined Fernando Valenzuela (vs. Cardinals on June 29, 1990 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles) as the only Mexican-born pitchers to throw a no-hitter in MLB history.
- Rincon is the only reliever to record a win in a combined no-hitter where the starter went at least nine innings.
- Rincon is also one of only four relievers to record a win in a combined no-hitter (Ernie Shore, 1917; Brad Lidge, 2003; Stephen Pryor, 2012).
