Friday, October 17th, 2008: Pirates, Red Sox Advance to LCS
The Pittsburgh Pirates made quick work of the CAL-ANA-LA Angels, beating them 11-2 in Game 3 of the divisional round to advance to the League Championship Series. The Bucs combined great hitting, rapping out 17 hits, including four doubles, and stealng four bases, with great pitching, as Ed Morris went the distance, allowing only two runs on 11 hits. Most of the offense was provided by Willie Stargell, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Bill Mazeroski, who recorded three hits of his own while driving in two. John Lackey was saddled with the loss after surrendering six earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.

In other action, the Boston Red Sox used a two-run eighth inning to tie the Athletics at 6-6, then plated three more in the 10th to complete their three-game sweep over PHI-KC-OAK and advance to the next round. Joe Cronin's two-run blast to left off A's starter Rube Waddell in the eighth, his second four-bagger of the day, knotted the score at 6. Wade Boggs' three-run shot off Jason Isringhausen in the top of the 10th proved to be the difference in a hard-fought 10-7 victory. Cronin went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Manny Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. The A's belted four home runs of their own, two by Reggie Jackson, and catcher Mickey Cochrane went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to finish the series with a .500 batting average.

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008: Hit Parade: Oliver Pops 5 Hits
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what WAS-TEX center fielder Al Oliver said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-6 day against the CAL-ANA-LA Angels at The Ballpark at Arlington. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."

The Rangers had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 17-3.

A. Oliver singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off N. Ryan in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off T. Percival in the 9th.

Thus far this year Oliver is hitting .335 with 20 home runs, 93 RBIs and 125 runs scored.
Monday, September 29th, 2008: BRK-LA Blanks Angels, Koufax at His Best
"Sandy Koufax is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the BRK-LA hurler tossed a complete game 1-hit shutout against the CAL-ANA-LA Angels.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Koufax. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Koufax walked 5 and struck out 7 in the 5-0 victory.

Thus far this season Koufax has posted a 18-10 record, started 35 games, struck out 234 batters in 269.2 innings and compiled a 3.77 ERA.
