Monday, September 14th, 2009: Rolen Selected Player of the Week
The votes have been cast and counted and the winner of the National League Player of the Week has been chosen. It was presented earlier today to Scott Rolen for his red-hot week of hitting.

The St. Louis third baseman took home the trophy by splurging with 12 hits in 27 at-bats for a .444 batting average, driving in 13 runs and scoring 7 times.

So far this season Rolen has hit .304 with 38 home runs, 101 RBIs and and scored 97 times.
Friday, September 11th, 2009: 2-Game Suspensions for Boone-Suppan Fight
The league commissioner announced that two players had been suspended for inappropriate conduct. He told BNN, "What I'm trying to do with these penalties is say, we can't stop you from doing these things, but if you do them, you have to understand you will pay the consequences."

Baseball can be an intense game and on-field confrontations happen. However, the league disciplinary policy is to punish, sometimes severely, those who decide to settle things with their fists.

When Aaron Boone of the Cincinnati Reds 1999 and Jeff Suppan of the St. Louis Cardinals 2004 got into a scuffle during a game, both players knew that a suspension would be forthcoming.

Sure enough, today it was announced that both players will each receive a 2-game suspension for their actions in a recent game at Cinergy Field.

Currently Boone has 8 home runs and a .237 batting average.

In 2009 Suppan has compiled a 10-9 mark with a 4.57 ERA in 28 starts. In pitching 179.1 innings he has 102 strikeouts and 44 walks while limiting the opposition to a .263 batting average.
Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009: Zero Hour: Ojeda Blanks Cardinals 2004
The Cardinals 2004 tried, but could not solve New York's Bob Ojeda, falling to the Mets 1988 4-0. St. Louis managed only 6 hits off Ojeda, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 6 strikeouts and walked 0.

In 23 starts this season, Ojeda has recorded 12 wins and absorbed 9 losses. He has pitched 155.1 innings, allowed 148 hits, struck out 89 and has a 3.19 ERA.
