Did You Know?
  • Wes Ferrell went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, homer and four RBIs, the first pitcher to hit a home run in a game in which he also threw a no-hitter and one of four to accomplish the feat (Jim Tobin vs. Dodgers on April 27, 1944 at Braves Field in Boston; Earl Wilson vs. Angels on June 26, 1962 at Fenway Park in Boston; Rick Wise vs. Reds on June 23, 1971 at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati).
  • Browns catcher Rick Ferrell went 0 for 3 against his younger brother, but almost broke up Wes' no-hitter in the top of the eighth when he grounded hard past third baseman Johnny Burnett, but shortstop Bill Hunnefield backhanded the ball in the hole and threw hurriedly to first. The play was close and many thought Rick had beaten the throw for a hit, but Hunnefield was charged with an error, his second of three on the day.
  • This was the first of three no-hitters caught by Luke Sewell (Vern Kennedy vs. Indians on August 31, 1935 at Comiskey Park I in Chicago; Bill Dietrich vs. Browns on June 1, 1937 at Comiskey Park).
