Did You Know?
- Gilbert's no-hitter came in his first major league start and fourth appearance. He's one of only four pitchers to throw a no-hitter in his first MLB start (Ted Breitenstein vs. Louisville Colonels on October 4, 1891 at Sportsman's Park I in St. Louis; Bumpus Jones vs. Pirates on October 15, 1892 at League Park I in Cincinnati; Bobo Holloman vs. A's on May 6, 1953 at Sportsman's Park III in St. Louis).
- Gilbert hadn't started a game since 2017 when he pitched for the Clearwater Threshers of the Advanced A Florida State League and had never completed a start as a pro until he tossed his no-hitter.
- Gilbert's no-hitter was the eighth of the 2021 season and tied the record for most in one campaign with 1884 when the mound was still only 50 feet from home plate.
- Catcher Daulton Varsho had only 27 career starts behind the plate going into the game, ranking the Gilbert/Varsho battery third among batteries with the fewest career starts heading into a no-hitter (Kent Mercker (11)/Javy Lopez (9) had 20 vs. Dodgers on April 8, 1994 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles; Don Wilson (11)/Dave Adlesh (14) had 25 vs. Braves on June 18, 1967 at Astrodome in Houston).
