Did You Know?
  • This was the first of two career no-hitters thrown by Bob Forsch (vs. Expos on September 26, 1983 at Busch Stadium II in St. Louis) and the first by a Cardinals pitcher in St. Louis since Jesse Haines held the Braves hitless on July 17, 1924 at Sportsman's Park III.
  • Forsch's no-hitter was preserved by a controversial call by official scorer Neil Russo of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who gave an error to third baseman Ken Reitz on a Garry Maddox grounder to lead off the top of the eighth inning instead of ruling it a hit.
  • Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt hit three long fly balls to center field, two of which went at least 400 feet, but the center field wall at Busch Stadium II at the time was 414 feet from home so they were all easy outs.
  • This was the second of two no-hitters caught by Ted Simmons (Bob Gibson vs. Pirates on August 14, 1971 at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh).

Did You Know?
  • This was the second of two career no-hitters thrown by Bob Forsch and both came in seasons in which he lost more games than he won (vs. Phillies on April 16, 1978 At Busch Stadium II in St. Louis).
  • Warnings were given by home plate umpire Harry Wendelstedt in the second inning after Forsch hit Gary Carter with a pitch. It was known that the Cardinals weren't happy with Carter spiking the ball into the Montreal turf after Floyd Raford struck out to end the sixth inning of game two of a doubleheader on September 19 and retaliation was expected.
  • Expos reliever Dan Schatzeder and manager Bill Virdon were ejected after the former hit Andy Van Slyke with a pitch in the sixth inning.
  • This was the second of two no-hitters caught by Darrell Porter (Jim Colborn vs. Rangers on May 14, 1977 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City).
